About the Artisan Group:
Hands Producing Hope is an organization that works with artisans from Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Coppey Abajo, Costa Rica; and Nkombo Island, Rwanda. They have a vision to see all people (regardless of gender, ethnicity, or geographical location) be afforded opportunities to have dignified and respectable work, and to provide for their families and flourish in their communities. They want to see a universal growth in an understanding of the impact an individual can make with their time, resources, and talents.
This specific product was made by artisans on Nkombo Island in Rwanda. There are about 20,000 people living on Nkombo Island, which remained unclaimed by any country until about two decades ago. Bishop Nathan Amooti, the local Anglican Bishop of the Cyangugu Diocese, saw the need in this underdeveloped area, and brought together several churches and organizations to work together to equip the people of Nkombo Island with the tools necessary to rise above poverty. Hands Producing Hope has created a program that provides a market that showcases traditional Rwandan handiwork and artisanal skills that have been passed down for generations, encourages literacy and education, and helps develop skills that will equip those in our program long after they leave.
With each product you can expect slight variations as a part of the artisan-crafted charm.
